The Dance
A wonderful art deco piece that is Swedish, featuring bold figurative composition, with two nude figures set within a kaleidoscope of sweeping geometric forms. The bodies are simplified almost to silhouettes, outlined in dark charcoal and surrounded by great rays of cornflower blue, violet, acid yellow and dusty pink. There is something distinctly mid-century in its playful collision of figuration and abstraction, part dreamers, part dreamscape, with the figures’ elongated poses giving the whole scene a lovely sense of movement and freedom. The slim gilt frame contains all the colours without competing with them.
The artist died in 1945.
Keep out of direct sunlight and gently dust with a soft cloth.
