The Day at the Beach, 1945
A wonderfully Swedish midcentury coastal scene, capturing a lazy day at the water’s edge with sunbathers scattered along the sand and a handful of tiny figures further down the shore. Broad, confident brushstrokes give the painting its wonderful immediacy, with sandy ochres, watery blues and flashes of yellow moving across the canvas. The wonderfully spare treatment of the figures and landscape gives it that particularly good Scandinavian modernist feeling... unfussy, atmospheric and full of summer. Signed and dated 1945, and presented in its original painted wood frame.
Keep out of direct sunlight and gently dust with a soft cloth.
