The Geometry of Colour

A striking geometric midcentury abstraction from Sweden, this wonderfully spirited oil on canvas brings together an intricate arrangement of angular forms in a rich, unexpected palette of mustard yellow, cobalt blue, burnt orange, olive green and chocolate brown. There is a distinctly Cubist influence at play, with overlapping planes, sharp intersections and fragmented shapes creating a lovely sense of movement and rhythm across the canvas. Despite its wonderfully complex construction, the painting feels remarkably balanced, with little flashes of red and brilliant yellow bringing the whole composition to life. Signed by the artist and housed in a slim gilt frame, this is a confident, characterful piece with plenty of personality, equally at home amongst antiques as it would be in a more contemporary interior.
