The Stargazer
A quietly poetic Finnish painting from 1995, depicting a solitary figure in a long blue dress beneath a scattering of stars. The composition is pared back almost to its essentials...the dark ground, simplified figure and tiny points of light giving the work a dreamlike, contemplative quality. There is something wonderfully storybook about it, but also a sense of stillness and solitude that keeps it from feeling overly sweet. The substantial silver-toned frame adds an unexpected grandeur to this intimate, slightly mysterious scene.
Keep out of direct sunlight and gently dust with a soft cloth.
